Dear Applicants,

China Ministry of Information Industry (MII), CSTC (China Software Test Center) and State Buro of International Experts (BIE) have completed selection of final 12 delegates (out of 30) for the SCOBA SW Experts Delegation. Those who are not selected (not receiving this email in the mail box) for this trip will have a chance to join a second trip in early 2002 - SCOBA IC Experts Delegation hosted by MII.

I am pleased to announce that you, who have received this message in email, have been selected by MII (host) for the SW Expert Delegation. Tentative schedule for the trip is as follows:

Dec 15 离开旧金山机场 leave San Francisco Airport (USA) for Shanghai (Saturday)

Dec 16 (7 PM) arrive at 乘国航CA986航班经北京停留后16日晚上10PM抵到上海虹桥机场，杭州市在出口处接站后乘车赴杭州。
Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, pick-up at 10PM by Hangzhou city officials. (Sunday)

Dec 16-18 访问杭州市，市政府安排Hangzhou visit (Hangzhou city covers all expenses and airfare to Beijing)

Dec 18 (8:40PM) or 19 morning, 由杭州飞北京，信息产业部接待fly from Hanghou to Beijing

I plan going to it, the largest annual event with over 1,000 overseas Chinese scholars from 30+ countries. Register today for conference financial support at http://www.ocs-gz.gov.cn/.). Airfare from Chengdu to Beijing, other cities, or Guangzhou is provided by Mianyang city. Please let me know by Nov 25 your next stop after Chengdu, so that air tickets can be booked for you in advance by Mianyang host. Late notice will not be honored. • To qualify for the trip, you need (1) confirm your participation with me at zhu@scoba.org by Nov 20, and (2) send the following information to me by Nov 21 (in this order, all in Chinese if appropriate, via email only.) Delay in either will disqualify you.

• MII/CSTC will issue official invitation with registration forms to you via email or fax. Please fill in and send back to the designated address or fax by deadline. Delay will disqualify you for the trip.
• All expenses (round-trip international air, domestic air, hotel, food, local transportation) for Dec 15-27 (except for Guangzhou) will be covered by hosts. Delegates need to prepare some pocket money (US$500-1000) suggested) for personal uses on the trip.
• If you can NOT make the trip this time, please notify me by Nov 20 so that we can find substitutes and not to waste the precious chance for other qualified candidates.
• Delegate is responsible to pay his or her own round-trip ticket for the flight from SFO to Shanghai Pudong Airport. MII/BIE will reimburse you (with ticket receipt and invite) for the equivalent of an Air China SFO-China round trip ticket (about USD700). James (Jian) Liu of San Jose will coordinate the activities in Bay Area (including an all-heads meeting before departure), and buy air tickets for all delegates. Please contact him today.
• All passports must be valid for at least 3 months after Dec 15.
• Each delegate is required to prepare a 5-10 min presentation in Chinese in Powerpoint. for an audience of engineers, executive, tech park officials. Please email it to me by Dec 10. Laptop computer and LCD projector will be provided by local host.
• Please modify your Chinese business plans or brochures for on-site distribution.
• Each delegate needs to pay James Liu USD 50 for SCOBA service rendered, as notified.

CCID is China authority on IT, overseeing many IT indudstreis including but not limted to software, IC and many more. CCID has requested SCOBA to organize a Software Expert Group (SEG) with 10-15 delegates to visit China and consult on SW, in the time frame of last quater of 2001.

[Finance]
- CCID will provide full finance, including airfare, lodging and food.


[Qualifications]
Applicants must
- be available for a 10-day trip to china;
- be interested in supporting China's SW industry development;
- have a MS or PhD (preferred) in CS or EE from a foreign university;
- have 5+ years experience in commercial SW development enviroment outside China;
- have solid expertise in SW system design, architecture, programming, SQA or others;
- SW project management or marketing expertise is a plus;
- SCOBA members have higher priority over non-members;
- Applicants with co-op business plan(s) have higher priority

- send a chinese descriptione on your innovative ideas for china SW
- Application deadline is 5:00 PM, Sept 15, 2001.
- SCOBA will forward the materials to CCID for final selection.
- 10~15 candidates shall be selected and notified by CCID by Oct 1.
- Each selected candidate shall pay SCOBA $50 ($30 for SCOBA members) as processing fee.
