Dr. Zhu is now running his company Arcray Chips, Inc. in SiChuan, China and has rich hand-on experience on building IC start-ups in China.

Biography of Dr. Dongping (Daniel) Zhu

Dongping (Daniel) Zhu received a BS and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Dalian University of Technology (DUT) in China, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and Stata University (VPI). He was Instructor at DUT, Staff Scientist at InVision Technologies, Foster City, CA, Senior Scientist and project lead at Loral GlobalStar, Inc. San Jose, CA, and R&D Director and VP at Aptronix, Santa Clara, CA. In 1997 he founded Zaptron Systems, Inc., an intelligent control technology company in the Silicon Valley.
In November 2001, Dr. Zhu co-founded, with a group of Silicon Valley professionals, Arcray Chips, Inc. in Sichuan, China, the
"Science and Technology Center of China". It develops high-performance as well as embedded microprocessors (CPU/MPU) for servers and consumer application SOC (system-on-chip), with funding from central and local government and private sectors. It seeks IC designers to work on MIPS microprocessor design and SOC system engineers. High-performance CPU is now listed as No. 1 objective of the No. 1 plan of China computer industry, with government R&D fund of 100 million RMB, and SOC design is No. 1 objective of China IC industry with even more fund.
In the past, he has served as reviewer for IEEE International Conference on pattern recognition and computer vision, Kluwer-Nijhoff Publishing House of Holland, USDA National Research Grand Program, Associate Editor of Proceedings of the 1997 International Conference on Imaging Sciences, Systems and Technology, General Chair of the 1st International Conference on Multisource-Multisensor Information Fusion (FUSION'98), and General Chair of FUSION'99. In 1998, he co-founded the International Society of Information Fusion (www.inforfusion.org), and has served as the Secretary and VP of it. From 1996 to 2001, he was Associate Dean of Information Technology College at DUT and from 1996-2002 Adjunct Professor of controls at Northeast University of China. He has published over 20 papers in IEEE, Academic Press, SPIE, and international conferences.
