Dear members and friends,

We were all shocked by the devastating tragedy happened in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania on 9/11. The loss of thousands of innocent lives touches everyone in one way or another. The response to this attack transcends all national boundaries and ethnic groups.

To give our sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the people who suffered the lost, to face the challenge of resuming people's normal life and to help the victims and their families, we, The SF Bay Area Chinese community, have formed a joint force, 'Bay Chinese 911 Relief Fund' steering committee composed of dozens of local Chinese organizations.

The committee calls for actions:

1. Blood Donation

The Stanford Blood Bank has started a blood drive to stock up blood supplies in anticipation of needs in NYC and Washington DC. For blood donating, please call 1-888-723-7831 (option 3) to make an appointment. (http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu). You can also call Red Cross Blood Donation: 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. Keep in mind that a donation next week or the week after is just as valuable as a donation today!

2. Relief Fund raising

We met with representatives of American Red Cross Santa Clara Valley Chapter, and reached the following agreement with them: American Red Cross [ARC] will authorize "Bay Chinese 911 Relief Fund" [BC911RF] to use ARC's name in all our fund raising events. They will give a joint Press Release with BC911RF.

To make donations, make your check Payable to:"American Red Cross". This way, the donation is clearly tax deductible, no IRS audit. You will receive a thank-you letter and receipt from American Red Cross for tax exemption. Please write in Memo portion: "BC911RF/xxx Organization", where BC911RF stands for "Bay Chinese 911 Relief Fund" and you can use the short title of your organization or "personal" to replace "xxx Organization). This is important, since we would like to count the total amount of donations from our Chinese community. We will show that we Chinese community do care, and are willing to give a hand whenever needed. The address to send check to:
