Dear Mr. Daniel Zhu ,

My name is Erinn Alarcon and I am the Assistant Director of Technology and Industry Research at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in San Francisco.  Our office has received a special request from Mr. Tomoyuki Nakagawa, a senior research fellow from Japan's Institute for International Policy Studies. He is currently writing a position paper for the Japanese Cabinet about Japanese and Chinese businesses and, as he is scheduled to visit Silicon Valley during the second week of January, would like to interview high-tech companies and organizations in Silicon Valley to discuss issues related to business in China .

Mr. Nakagawa is very interested in knowing your views and thoughts on the following topics :

1)      How do US companies see/assess the capability and technological know-how of Chinese companies?

2)      What have US companies gained from China's WTO membership?

3)      What strategy do US companies have for business in/with China?

4)      How do US companies view the movement for the Regional Trade Agreement in East Asia?

5)      What role do US companies expect from Japan in these contexts?

In this regard, may we request for an appointment with the proper person on the 8th, 9th, or 10th of January 2003?

For any clarification or reply, please contact me any time at 408-387-1330. My e-mail address is erinn@jetrosf.org。Hoping for your positive and immediate reply. Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Erinn Alarcon
